Leprechaun Wanted! (Or… Not?) 🍀

A true Story…..

Hiring Manager: “We need a fairy for our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. Must have wings, sprinkle pixie dust, and be able to fly.”

Leprechaun Applicant: “I’m a fairy.”

Hiring Manager: “Hmm… you don’t have wings. Are you sure you’re a fairy?”

Leprechaun: “Yep! Part of the Aos Sí, deeply rooted in Irish folklore.”

Hiring Manager: “Right… but we were looking for someone with actual wings. Also, you’re male—aren’t fairies usually female?”

Leprechaun: “Wow. So we’re making hiring decisions based on stereotypes now?”

Hiring Manager: “It’s not personal, we just have an image in mind. Also, we need a team player—you’re a solitary fairy.”

Leprechaun: “I work alone because I’m efficient. Who do you think hides all those pots of gold by themselves?”

Hiring Manager: “Look, you’re great, but we’re going to go in another direction.”

Leprechaun: “That’s fine. I’ll just be over here, protecting my very real treasure, while you try to find someone else as lucky as me.” 💰

The Takeaway: Are You Overlooking Gold?

This happens all the time in hiring! Great candidates are dismissed due to assumptions, rigid requirements, and outdated stereotypes. Just because someone doesn’t fit the traditional mold doesn’t mean they lack the right skills, experience, or magic to do the job.

Before you pass on a candidate, ask yourself:
✅ Are you screening based on myths rather than actual job needs?
✅ Are you excluding talent by sticking to old, narrow definitions?
✅ Could this candidate bring hidden strengths you didn’t consider?

Don’t let your next hire slip away like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow!
